INSIDE THE VOLCANO
The dormant Thrihnukagigur volcano (good luck trying to pronounce it) is a unique natural phenomenon in the heart of Iceland. Dormant for 4000 years the first visitors decended into its giant magma chamber only two years ago. It’s a two mile hike to the volcano across the craggy basalt outcrops and pillowy thick moss of the lava field, and over the rift where Europe and America divide. And then you descend 120 metres into the heart of the volcano, into a cavern so vast it could easily fit the Statue of Liberty.
